Our furniture is easy to clean and maintain. In most cases, just use a damp cloth. WOOD Fine furniture should not be exposed to strong sunlight. The finishing materials used on your Schnadig furniture are the most durable and fadeproof available. However, the wood underneath the finish can change color when exposed to direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time. Rubber lamp bases, lamp cords and some types of plastic materials may soften and injure the finish if left in direct contact with the furniture for a long time. To avoid this, place a piece of felt or leather under these materials where they contact the furniture. Wipe up any spills or dampness on your furniture immediately. Use a new clean cloth and wipe with the grain of the wood for each step in cleaning your furniture. First, wipe with a soft cloth dipped in a mild soap and water solution and wrung out; wipe again with a second clean cloth dipped in clear water and wrung out; then dry thoroughly with a third cloth, being sure to rub with the grain of the wood. An occasional cleaning with a reliable, non-silicone furniture polish will enhance the fine factory finish. Avoid oily or silicone polishes or waxes, which attract dust and over time will build up a grimy film. Avoid sitting abrasive items directly on your furniture and place a protective pad under any hot dish. Small scratches or marks may be touched up with a scratch remover or touch-up stick, available in fine furniture or paint stores. STONE Because stone is porous, spills allowed to seep in may not be able to be removed. Use coasters or a tablecloth to protect from spills or sweat rings. Wipe any spills immediately. Clean using mild soap and water as you would for fine wood furniture. Remember to dry thoroughly. MOLDED RESIN Clean as for fine wood furniture. A mild glass or household cleaner may also be used. WICKER AND OTHER NATURAL FIBER PRODUCTS Clean the frames of your natural fiber furniture by dusting or vacuuming; sponge spills with mild soap and water, rinse and wipe dry. If your product has cushions, clean acrylic fabrics with mild soap and water. All other fabrics require professional cleaning. The back cushions are filled with polyester fibers that will settle with time and use. To maintain the original fullness and proper fiber distribution, fluff the cushions periodically. METAL AND WROUGHT IRON Maintain wrought iron with regular dusting. Wipe up any spills or dampness immediately. To wash, use a clean, soft cloth for each step. Wipe first with a cloth dipped in a mild soap and water solution and wrung out; wipe again with a cloth dipped in clear water and wrung out; dry thoroughly. LEATHER Furniture polish is not recommended for leather care (tables, dressers, chests and beds) due to polish buildup that occurs with multiple applications. For daily dustings, use dry, clean, cotton cloths. Dyes in colored cloths could be transferred into the leather finish. Carved leather can be cleaned with a very soft brush. To clean spills, spray with a reputable oil soap product (diluted with 50% water). Dry thoroughly with a clean, dry, cotton cloth leaving no film or residue. This regimen is also recommended for a monthly cleaning application. |
